25th October 2025, UCSI University Golden Bonds Programme to Rumah Seri Kenangan

The Student Affairs and Alumni of UCSI University Sarawak Campus in collaboration with The Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) Kuching successfully organized The Golden Bonds Visiting Programme at Rumah Seri Kenangan on 25 October 2025.
Students and staff took part in the visit, engaging in meaningful volunteer work and delivering donations to the senior citizens’ home. This meaningful outreach aimed to spread joy among senior citizens while fostering compassion and volunteerism among students.
According to Puan Dayang Siti Nurshamira Awang Talip, Principal of Rumah Seri Kenangan, the home currently houses around 70 residents. About 30 of them, along with several staff, joined in the fun. “I was very happy to see them smile and actively engaging in the activities. I hope more university students will continue visiting Rumah Seri Kenangan and organize future activities with our residents,” she shared with a warm smile.
The visit kicked off with a light exercise session where the residents did some gentle stretches and movements which helps them to improve the physical and mental well-being. This was followed by art activities that allowed them to express their emotions and creativity through coloring and paint-blowing exercises that reflected their unique personalities and emotions.
But the joy did not stop there as the university team delivered donations contributed by UCSI University staff, students, families, and friends. The project also received kind support from the university’s merchant partner, Edon Pharmacy, which played a vital role in contributing to the initiative. The donated items included daily essentials and food supplies, ensuring that the seniors have access to necessary resources.
The Golden Bonds Visiting Programme aligns with the university’s core values of integrity, humility, and excellence in personal development. It also exposes students to the practical importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to good health, well-being, and reducing inequalities. Volunteering activities like this provide invaluable companionship and emotional support for seniors who may feel isolated or lonely due to limited social interactions. Indirectly, students enhance their empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by elderly individuals, especially those experiencing social isolation. Therefore, this initiative not only fosters social connection but also enhances mental stimulation, which is significant in improving their quality of life.
UCSI University continues to foster a culture of volunteerism and empathy, through simplest acts of kindness such as this engagement session with the elderly of Rumah Seri Kenangan, the university aims to leave lasting impact.
