Eco-Pioneer Competition 2025

Introduction

The “Eco-Pioneers” competition, organized by UCSI University Sarawak Campus and the Regional Centre of Expertise Kuching (RCE Kuching), promotes action and creativity in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative offers a platform for diverse individuals to present ideas and stories that enhance sustainable development and community well-being.

Objectives

i.) Raise Awareness: Educate the public about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through creative outreach.

ii.) Encourage Local Actions: Provide a platform for youth to share ideas, past projects, and innovative approaches to community engagement.

iii.) Promote Collaboration: Foster potential collaborations between the university and stakeholders for effective sustainable development.

Focus SDGs

Who should participate?

Participants between 15 and 30 years old who reside in or near the Kuching region.

Competition Categories

1. Poster Design

i.) Description: Submit a visually compelling poster reflecting sustainable development actions in your community, aligned with one or more focus SDGs.

ii.) Format: A3 size, digital or hand-drawn; submitted in PDF, JPEG, or PNG format.

iii.) Language: English (local terms allowed with explanations).

iv.) Judging Criteria:

a) Visual impact

b) Relevance to SDGs

c) Creativity and innovation

d) Quality of presentation

e) Practicality of the message

2. Short Video

i.) Description: Create a short video (max 3 minutes) that documents or promotes community engagement aligned with the SDGs. Can include storytelling, interviews, or demonstrations.

ii.) Format: MP4 format, max 3 minutes.

iii.) Language: English; Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin allowed with English subtitles.

iv.) Judging Criteria:

a) SDG alignment

b) Creativity and storytelling

c) Community engagement

d) Feasibility of proposed actions

e) Technical quality

Prizes for Each Category

i.) Champion: RM 1,800 cash + Trophy + Certificate + Bursary (RM10, 000 per participant)

ii.) 1st Runner-Up: RM 1,200 cash + Trophy + Certificate + Bursary (RM8, 000 per participant)

iii.) 2nd Runner-Up: RM 500 cash + Trophy + Certificate + Bursary (RM5, 000 per participant)

iv.) Consolation Prizes (x 5): RM 200 cash + Trophy + Certificate + Bursary (RM5, 000 per participant)

Prizes will be awarded during the official Award Ceremony. Prize money for group entries will be shared among team members (max 3 members per group).

Terms and conditions on UCSI Bursary

1. The bursary awarded is applicable for Foundation Studies or Diploma Year 1 or Degree Year 1 at UCSI University.

2. The bursary awarded is in the form of a tuition fee waiver for programme and duration offered at UCSI University and is neither transferable to another candidate nor exchangeable for cash.

3. The bursary amount will be disbursed equally over the first 3 semesters of the study; recipients are responsible for the outstanding fee amount.

4. The bursary awarded is for the 2026 intakes only. Arrangement to join later intake could be made for recipients who are studying Form 5 in the year 2026.

5. Recipients must be full-time registered student at UCSI University meeting the minimum entry requirement for the institution.

6. Recipients are to maintain an academic record of having minimum CGPA of 3.00 for every semester throughout the length of the bursary. Failing to do so may result in suspension or discontinuation of the bursary.

7. Recipients are to voluntarily contribute effort and time by participating various workplace and community projects by the institution and UCSI University Trust

8. Tuition fee waivers are not cumulative. If recipients qualify for other UCSI Scholarship, Grant, Assistantship or Sibling’s scheme, recipients will be entitled to either one that they are eligible for.

Terms and Conditions:

Eligibility

1. Participants must be between 15 and 30 years old and reside in or near the Kuching region.

2. Entries must be original creations made specifically for this competition.

3. Each participant or team may submit one entry per category only.

4. Group submissions are allowed with a maximum of three (3) members per team.

5. Participants under the age of 18 must provide parental/guardian/teacher consent for participation.

Submission Standards

1. Entries must not contain inappropriate, discriminatory, offensive, or plagiarized content.

2. All entries must be submitted in the prescribed format by, 19 September 2025.

3. Submissions must include a brief description (up to 300 words) explaining alignment with SDGs.

4. AI-assisted entries must be transparently declared. Submissions must demonstrate original creative effort.

Intellectual Property & Usage

1. Submitted content remains the intellectual property of its creators.

2. By participating, entrants grant UCSI and RCE Kuching a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use content for educational and promotional purposes (with credit) for up to three (3) years.

Technical & Safety Clauses

1. UCSI and RCE Kuching are not responsible for technical issues, including failed uploads or connectivity disruptions. Participants are encouraged to retain proof of submission.

2. Participants are solely responsible for ensuring their personal safety, equipment security, and compliance with laws while producing entries. Organizers disclaim liability for injury or property loss.

Privacy & Data Handling

1. Personal data collected will be used solely for administration, prize distribution, and post-event communication. No third-party sharing will occur without consent.

Judging & Results

1. Entries will be evaluated based on published judging criteria. The judges’ decisions are final and non-negotiable.

2. Organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries that breach rules, misrepresent information, or fail to meet competition standards.

Event Modifications

1. Organizers may amend, postpone, or cancel the competition due to unforeseen circumstances (force majeure) without prior notice. No compensation will be given for impacted entries.
